Team

Majedie is a closely knit team of 34 employees with deep, specialist expertise in fund management, dealing, client service and administration. These strengths have been externally recognised, both in Greenwich Associates institutional client surveys and various industry awards. We relish being able to show our clients the real value of harnessing what is a unique blend of proven teamwork and individual skill.

UK Equities

Our UK equity fund management team has an average 22 years’ investment experience. Crucially, the four founding fund managers (James de Uphaugh, Chris Field, Rob Harris and Adam Parker) have worked together for 18 of those years, having previously formed the Alpha Team at Mercury Asset Management. It was there that the team was successfully forged against varying stockmarket backdrops. They evolved into that rare breed in asset management: a genuine, stress-tested team. Matthew Smith joined the long only UK equity fund management roster in November 2010.

Global Equities

Simon Todd and Michael Nickson joined Majedie from Odey Asset Management in September 2010 and together run Majedie’s Global Focus Fund. They have an excellent, long term track record and share with the UK team a total focus on performing for clients, underpinned by a commitment to staying small. They previously worked together at MFS Investment Management, where Simon managed concentrated Global and European portfolios from 2003 (together with Michael since 2008), outperforming the relevant benchmark by 6.4% per annum since inception.

Absolute Return

Matthew Smith joined Majedie from Deutsche Bank in April 2006, launching the UCITS IV registered Tortoise Fund in August 2007; Chris Reid joined Majedie (also from Deutsche Bank) as co-manager of the Fund in November 2008. Both managers combine fundamental research expertise with the pragmatism and flexibility required for successful absolute return investing.
